Privacy Policy

Last updated 31 October 2026

The short version

  • We do not sell your information, and we never use it for advertising.
  • We use it only to make this website work for you: your account, saved progress, leaderboards, and messages you send us. We won’t use it for anything else without asking you first, unless the law requires it.
  • Students under 16 must be registered by a parent or guardian, using the parent’s own email address.
  • You can ask to see, correct or erase your information at any time by emailing teamnotasloth@gmail.com.

1. About this policy

This policy explains how Team Not-A-Sloth (“we”, “us”) handles personal information on teamnotasloth.com. It covers students, parents and guardians, and anyone who contacts us. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This policy is governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia.

2. Children and parents

  • Under 16: a parent or guardian must create the account, using their own (adult) email address. The parent agrees to this policy and our Terms and Conditions on the child’s behalf, and password-reset emails and any notices go to the parent.
  • 16 and over: students may create their own account.
  • More than one child: each account needs its own email address. Many email providers let you add a tag to your address, such as parent+mia@gmail.com, which still arrives in your inbox.
  • If we find that a child under 16 has registered without a parent, we will contact the account email and may close the account.
  • Parents and guardians can ask to see, correct or erase their child’s information at any time (section 10).

3. What we collect

When you create an account: the student’s name, the account email address and a password. We store the password only in scrambled (hashed) form, so no one, including us, can read it. You can also choose a nickname to show on leaderboards and comments.

When you use the site:

  • lessons and exercises opened, answers checked, and quiz results (first and best attempts);
  • time spent active on lessons, the days you visit, your streak, and when you sign in;
  • assignment and test answers, including any photos of written work you upload;
  • comments, votes and course requests you submit;
  • practice-test results your coach records for you.

When you contact us: the name, email address, optional WhatsApp number and message you send.

Automatically: your IP address and basic browser details, which we use to keep the site secure and to block spam and fake sign-ups, and analytics data (section 8).

Please don’t include anything we don’t need, such as a home address, school name or photos of faces, in comments, messages or uploaded photos.

4. How we use it

We use personal information only to run this website and support its features:

  • to create and secure your account and send password-reset emails;
  • to save your progress and show your results, points, streaks and leaderboards;
  • so your coach can see your progress and mark your work;
  • to reply to messages and course requests;
  • to prevent spam, fake accounts and misuse;
  • to understand, in aggregate, which lessons are used and improve them.

We do not sell personal information, rent it out, or use it for advertising. We will not use or share it for any other purpose without your consent (a parent’s consent for a child under 16), unless the law requires or allows it.

5. What other users can see

Leaderboards show your leaderboard name: the nickname you choose, or your first name if you haven’t chosen one. Never your full name or email. You can pick or change it when you sign up, or from any leaderboard.

  • Classmates in a class you join see your leaderboard name, points and streak on that class’s leaderboard.
  • Signed-in users see your leaderboard name on the site-wide streak leaderboard.
  • Comments show only your nickname, never your name or email.
  • Your coach (the teacher running your class) sees your progress, results and submitted work.

6. Who we share it with

We share personal information only with the service providers that run the website for us, and only so far as they need it to provide their service:

  • Vercel: hosts the website (servers in the United States);
  • Supabase: stores our database (servers in Singapore);
  • Google: sends our emails (Gmail) and provides Google Analytics and web fonts;
  • jsDelivr: delivers some of the code that lesson pages use.

Because these providers are based overseas, your information may be stored or processed in the United States, Singapore and other countries. We choose established providers with strong security, but overseas laws may differ from Australian law. We do not share personal information with anyone else unless you agree or the law requires it, for example a court order.

7. AI

Some lesson content is created with the help of AI tools. We do not send your personal information, answers or messages to AI services.

8. Cookies and analytics

  • Sign-in cookie: keeps you signed in. It expires after one day.
  • Preferences: your browser remembers settings such as light or dark mode.
  • Google Analytics: tells us which pages are visited, roughly from where (city or region) and on what kind of device, so we can improve the site. We have turned off Google’s advertising features, and we do not send names or email addresses to Google Analytics.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block the sign-in cookie, you won’t be able to stay signed in.

9. Keeping it safe and how long we keep it

We protect personal information with encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords and access limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure. If a data breach is likely to cause serious harm, we will tell the affected families and, where required, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

We keep your information while your account is open. When an account is closed, you choose what happens next:

  • Close the account. It becomes inactive: it can no longer sign in and no longer appears to other users. We keep its records so it can be reopened later with all progress intact. Just ask.
  • Erase your personal details. As well as closing the account, within 30 days we replace the name, email address and nickname with an anonymous placeholder and remove any uploaded photos. Learning records such as progress and scores stay only in de-identified form, so they can no longer be linked to you. An erased account can’t be reopened.

Messages sent through the contact form are kept only as long as we need them to help you.

10. Seeing, correcting or erasing your information

Email teamnotasloth@gmail.com to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, to close your account, or to erase your personal details (section 9). Parents and guardians can do this for their child. We may need to confirm that you own the account, for example by replying to its email address. We will respond within 30 days.

11. Complaints

If you are worried about how we have handled your information, email teamnotasloth@gmail.com and we will try to resolve it within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the website changes. We will change the date at the top, and for significant changes we will tell account holders by email or on the website before they take effect.
