Level 1 · Warm-up

1 Blue : yellow paint = 1 : 3. You use 5 tins of blue. How many tins of yellow do you need?
Show worked solution
One part = 5 tins, so yellow = 3 x 5 = 15 tins.
2 Share 20 stickers in the ratio 1 : 3. How many stickers are in the SMALLER share?
Show worked solution
1 + 3 = 4 parts, and 20 divided by 4 = 5, so the smaller share is 5 stickers. Check: 5 + 15 = 20.
3 A quantity is shared in the ratio 3 : 4. How many equal parts is it divided into?
Show worked solution
3 + 4 = 7 parts.

Level 2 · Core

4 Share $56 between Mia and Noah in the ratio 3 : 4. How much does Noah get?
Show worked solution
7 parts, and 56 divided by 7 = $8 per part, so Noah gets 4 x 8 = $32. Check: 24 + 32 = 56.
5 Cement : sand = 2 : 5. A load contains 15 buckets of sand. How many buckets of cement are there?
Show worked solution
5 parts = 15 buckets, so one part = 3 buckets, and cement = 2 x 3 = 6 buckets.
6 Share 45 marbles in the ratio 4 : 5. How many marbles are in the LARGER share?
Show worked solution
9 parts, and 45 divided by 9 = 5 marbles per part, so the larger share is 5 x 5 = 25. Check: 20 + 25 = 45.

Level 3 · Challenge

7 Share 132 lollies in the ratio 5 : 6. How many MORE lollies does the larger share get than the smaller share?
Show worked solution
11 parts, and 132 divided by 11 = 12 per part, giving 60 and 72. The difference is 72 - 60 = 12.
8 Two friends share money in the ratio 3 : 5. The smaller share is $27. What is the TOTAL amount shared?
Show worked solution
3 parts = $27, so one part = $9. The larger share is 5 x 9 = $45, and the total is 27 + 45 = $72.
9 A 200 g nut mix is made with nuts : raisins = 3 : 2. What is the mass of raisins, in grams?
Show worked solution
5 parts, and 200 divided by 5 = 40 g per part, so raisins = 2 x 40 = 80 g. Check: 120 + 80 = 200.
